London Isoc is an organisation which was setup in 2000. The brothers who were at university at the time felt that dawah at universities had reached a stage where the disparate activities within the London Islamic societies, needed to be unified to develop a structured, more powerful unit for the purposes of dawah at university. The administration at the time did not forsee the initial teething problems the organisation would have and the project was abandoned a short while after.
By the Grace of Allaah, it was restarted in 2003 with renewed vigour and effort with 12 university Islamic societies sitting on the board of London Isoc, with a group of experienced individuals at the helm. Through this phase of London Isoc, University Isocs sat on a monthly panel and discussed issues relating to their societies. They also accepted the task of carrying out local projects which were replicated in other Islamic Societies when complete. This phase lasted for two years. The main problem which was encountered, was that societies had enough problems dealing with themselves, that they were unable to carry out the projects which had been assigned to them. As a result, London Isoc entered its most recent stage, where a group of experienced graduates run London Isoc and provide key services to societies.
By the Grace of Allaah, the latest methodology has been working extremely well and London Isoc has been able to achieve many things over the last four years. It has run a variety of seminars, including Khateeb Training, Isoc Management and Dawah Training. In addition to this, it has distributed over 10,000 Freshers Packs a year and in the year 2009 has distributed 15,000 packs to universities in and out of London. London Isoc has also taken university students abroad to the earthquake disaster stricken areas of Pakistan to meet the people whose lives has been changed as a result. It has run activities weekends for the past few years as well as organising a London Treasure Hunt, running regular football tournaments and more besides.
London Isoc is a not-for-profit organisation. It does not have any paid staff and all its members are volunteers who take the time for their lives to work on this project for the sake of Allaah. By the Grace of Allaah, London Isoc has achieved many things and hopes to increase their activities in the future. There are a lot of things already in the pipeline which will inshaa'Allaah help to spread the word of Islam at universities.
